Each holiday I set aside at least one day to stay at home and do lots of things I enjoy. This holiday I thought I’d bring you all along with me for the day with a slightly different post. So grab a cup of tea or coffee and join me for a spring time home day.
This morning I had a short lie in. This is something I’m doing more often these days which frustrates me at times. However, today I knew I wouldn’t be getting up really early as I had a pretty late night last night. I had decided to watch a couple of episodes of a favourite programme and it was after midnight when I finally went to bed! Over the next few days I have to be up fairly early though so a short lie in is a luxury that I’m going to just enjoy and not feel bad about.
My “home days” are usually spent doing creative things. I don’t do any housework or things that I have to do. I like to spend time on my hobbies. Sometimes I will go outdoors and work in the garden but today I was quite determined that I was going to just spend the day indoors. I have plans to work in the garden later this week when the weather is hopefully a little better.
So I started the day with my quiet time and writing my morning pages. I had some breakfast (nothing different to normal - a yogurt, cereal bar, cup of tea and a glass of orange juice) and then decided to spend a bit of time playing the piano. I’ve been working on a few different pieces lately but this one is causing me some problems! The music I have is a different arrangement of the song to the one I’m used to hearing so I’m working on changing the music. Even the lyrics are different in the book!
After playing the piano for a while I needed some food. I’ve been trying to eat healthily as much as possible lately but today I’m just going for food that I enjoy. I bought a box of fish fingers last week as I saw them in the freezers and hadn’t had them for ages, so I cooked a couple of those and made very unhealthy fish finger sandwich! It was delicious though and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I have been working on a piece of artwork this holiday. She’s part of a bigger plan I have but I’m trying to get her right. I created a sketch last week and then I’ve been working on a larger piece this week. I sat for a couple of hours this afternoon and changed some details and then added some colour. She’s getting there but I’m still not 100% happy with the colour. I wanted it to be bolder colour and I began with soft pastels but I couldn’t control the detail as well as I wanted with those so I switched to coloured pencils. I’m going to have another try with something different but she’s starting to take shape.
April is a month with many different anniversaries. One of those anniversaries is that of Apollo 13. I love the film (even if it does make me cry!) and so I’ve sat and watched it again this afternoon. There are lots of little details in it that I really love. The saddest bit is when Jim Lovell’s youngest little boy, Jeffrey, asks Marilyn Lovell “Was it the door?” when she tells him that something broke on his daddy’s spaceship. There’s an earlier scene where Jim is explaining to him about Apollo 1 (in which three astronauts were killed in a fire during a test) and telling him that the door wouldn’t open but they were able to fix all of that. It is, in my opinion, a really well written and well put together film about a mission to just get back home. (And it has Tom Hanks in it so it’s got to be good! Ha!)
I made some tea/dinner after I’d watched the film. I decided on some Quorn mince with a tomato sauce and some vegetables. Possibly not the most exciting tea but it was nice. I also watched a second film. I watched Sweet Home Alabama just because I felt like I needed something a bit lighter after watching Apollo 13!
I started to write this post and download some footage from my camera onto the laptop to edit. It takes sooooo long to import into the programme I use to edit so while it was doing what it needed to do I went and had a lovely shower before I had some strawberries that have been sitting in the fridge for a few days and did a bit of reading and journaling to end the day. The footage was still importing even after all of that! I really should find out if that’s normal or if it’s just my programme/laptop that’s so slow…
Jonna Jinton had just uploaded a new video to YouTube so I sat and watched that too before I went to bed. I love to watch her videos and it’s always good to see a notification that there’s a new one!
It’s been a very quiet, creative, relaxed day at home and I’ve really enjoyed it. I hope you’ve enjoyed this slightly different post too. Let me know in the comments and tell me what you would do on a similar kind of day.
Thanks for reading and see you next week!
Thank you for sharing your home day, Sarah! It was fun to read and share the day with you ❤️ I choose one day a week that I call my "create and chill day" and it sounds very similar to yours! Today is actually my create and chill day this week...starting here with enjoying some reading on Substack and then it will be fun to see how the day unfolds! Sending you a big hug from Jamaica and lots of good vibes! 🌈
I really enjoyed this Sarah – it was lovely to see you play the piano! I'm a huge fan of days like this where you can just see where the day takes you. I'm also a huge fan of Jonna Jinton's YouTube videos!
