Most weeks I sit down on a Sunday afternoon to write my Substack post for the following Saturday. This week I sat and looked at the screen for a while and then started to write something but it wasn't quite right. I'll work on it and perhaps publish it next week but for now it will stay in my drafts. This is why I'm sitting on a Wednesday evening after a busy day at work trying to write something that makes some sense for Saturday morning.
I thought about a favourites list, or a garden post, or a musical list, etc., but nothing really seemed to feel very inspiring so I looked back at my posts from around this time last year and discovered that I was having exactly the same problem then too! At this time of year work becomes incredibly busy with lots going in during the day and then lots of deadlines to meet which require extra work. My planners are often left unused and I just feel very overwhelmed. And here we are again.
My house is a mess. Housework has been at a minimum for the last couple of weeks. I've made a real effort to do the dishes each day which is often one of the first things to slide but there's still time for that to happen! One thing I have done on the positive side of things is I have continued to eat properly. I generally end up living on rubbish and ready meals by this point in the year. I also set myself the challenge of doing a 10 minute Pilates type session each day. I've managed to stick to that for around a week which isn't bad going.
In a week or so my house will be turned even more upside down, if all goes to plan, as the work on renovating the bathroom will begin. I'm in the process of finalising all the details and then my bright pink bathroom will be no more.
The weather has been an interesting mix for June but this evening it's quite warm and bright outside so I opened the conservatory door and sat on the step with my cup of tea.
The clouds were quite dramatic with the blue sky, sun shining through the lower cloud and then a dark thundery cloud overhead. That cleared away a little later to leave some cotton wool/whispy cloud.
I decided to have a little walk around the yard and the garden. We might not have been so keen on the weather lately, but it turns out the plants have enjoyed the rain:
I cannot wait for the summer holidays when all of the work is done and I can stop for a little while and relax, but until then, in the midst of the chaos I need to remember to just stop now and then for a few moments and rest. I think the last half an hour or so walking around the garden and sitting on the step have been the best few minutes of the last week!
I also discovered that the tomato plants have started to flower!
Another day at work is ready and waiting in the morning, but I'm pleased I've been able to have a little bit of a break this evening. I'm going to have an early night I think!
See you next week.
