I’ve started a copywriting business but I don’t want loads of clients - just enough to sustain a life spent in a campervan. That way, I can travel around as I live. That’s my dream life!
Always love the idea of a campervan but I love home too much!! 😂
Have you started the business alongside teaching full time? One of my biggest 'worries' is the tax side of things...IF I ever actually make some money!! ☺️
I have - it’s very early days, I only have two clients bringing me about £100 a month but that’s the way it begins. I anticipate losing an average of 35-40% of what I earn to tax and student loan fees, based on what I’ve read up on, but I’m only in my first few months so I don’t know yet what the reality will be for me. I do know that it’s not uncommon for teachers to run side-businesses like this though, which is comforting. Eventually it could be my only income which would give me less to worry about tax-wise.
I guess you just have to figure it out as you go along...or get a decent accountant to do it all for you! My student loan is paid off (I'm old!) but I believe a second job is a much higher rate of tax. The government websites are actually pretty helpful though. My mam read Duncan Bannatyne's (Dragon's Den) autobiography and he'd said that when he was starting out he just used all the free info that was out there, including the government websites.
Have you ever come across Leonie Dawson? Her stuff may be of use to you if you haven't seen it already. ☺️
Hi Jack, I ran a side hustle coaching & consultancy alongside my ft job. Now I help others design their creative life & biz. Lots of free info out there too

I haven’t heard of her, I’ll look her up right away because I’m always open to suggestions like that. Thank you!
Some of the videos, etc. can be a bit "sweary" but the content is usually very good.
